The khorgo, in western sources is an extinct dead volcano field in the Tariat district in th Arkhangai Province. It is located on the northern slopes of the Khangai Mountains. The khorgo lies east of the lake Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur and together they are the cores of the Khorgo-Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur Natianal Park. A notable geological feature is solidified lava bubbles, which the locals have named basalt yurts”. 


There are a number of ger camps and hotels around the like, but camping is also very easy because of the sheer quantity of ideal sites to pitch up. The lake lends itself to swimming and is reputedly good for fishing, but the fish here are harder to catch than in other areas. The volcano is worth climbing if only to walk around the carter it is easy to hire a horse and ride it up the volcano, which also gives you chance to visit of the more interesting lava formations on your way, or carcs can be driven almost to the visit almost to the to the summit. It is situated in 580km northwest of Ulaanbaatar. 


It has been protected since 1965, fully in 1997, to safeguard spectacular mountain scenery and endangered flora and fauna. It’s surrounded by the Khangai Mountains, which reach as 3000 meters above the sea level. Khorgo volcano crater is situated at an altitude of 2210 m, 200 m wide and 100 m deep. Near the crater there are dozens of small caverns with stalactites hanging from their ceiling and walls. Because of volcanic eruption, the nature has very unique formation.
